Annual Report 2013-14
50 FHKI Annual Report 2013-14 Group 14 – Hong Kong Mould &Die Council (HKMDC) The HKMDC, led by Chairman Dr Jack Yeung and Vice-Chairman Colman Wong, endeavoured to assist members in tapping business opportunities in the Mainland and European markets. Cross-industry events have also been organised to help members expand their business networks. With the support of the BUD Fund, the HKMDC presented a Hong Kong Pavilion at the Die and Mould Zone of 2013 ChinaPlas in May, during which a series of exhibits were displayed to showcase the excellence, professionalism and creativity of Hong Kong mould practitioners to potential buyers, and to help members in expanding their business networks in the Mainland. Outside of the Mainland, the HKMDC joined hands with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in October 2013 to set up a Hong Kong Gallery at the triennial K-fair in Germany. Not only has it provided a good opportunity for members to sample the latest technology, but also enabled members to develop networks to penetrate the European market. In this inspiring and practical seminar, apart from the cutting-edge automation technologies, some cheaper automation solutions were also introduced to suit members’ different needs. In December 2013, the HKMDC and Group 15 (Hong Kong Plastics Industry Council) organised a joint annual dinner to facilitate business networking and cross-group collaboration. Secretary for Labour and Welfare Matthew Cheung was the guest of honour. He briefed members on supportive measures and labour initiatives launched by the Government. Entering its ninth year, the well-received Hong Kong Mould & Die Council Basketball Championship was held in March 2014, with eight enthusiastic teams striking for championship. The presentation ceremony was held at the HKMDC Spring Dinner later in the month with over 200 participants. To facilitate members’ communication, the HKMDC has revamped its website (www.hkmdc.org.hk) with the assistance of students from the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education. More market intelligence and information is disseminated to members through the new website. To establish a closer relationship with other industries, the HKMDC organised two cross-industry factory visits in August and October. In August 2013, it collaborated with Group 4 (Electrical and Optical Products) to visit GEW Corporation Ltd and TK Mold (Holdings) Ltd. Encouraged by the positive feedback frommembers, the HKMDC organised another round of visits in collaboration with Group 7 (Fabricated metal products and iron, steel and non-ferrous metal basic industries and machinery) to call on Kingdom Fine Metal Ltd and Hongrita Mold Ltd in October. Responding to members’ increasing interest and demand for technology enhancement and automation solutions, a seminar featuring how automation would help boost productivity was organised with Group 4 in January 2014.
