Annual Report 2013-14
36 FHKI Annual Report 2013-14 Business Missions Overseas business trips were arranged to enable members to see for themselves the latest economic development of some emerging countries. This facilitated the establishment of connections with the local business communities and exploration of business opportunities. A trade mission to India took place in May 2013, and another business mission was made to Russia and Turkey with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in November. Young Executive Council The Young Executive Council (YEC) was formed under the auspices of the FHKI in 2011. Led by the new Chairman Karen Chan, the YEC has been working vigorously to recruit more young talents of the industrial sector. To help members adapt to the ever-changing business environment, the YEC organised a series of seminars, factory visits and sharing sessions under the Manufacturing, Education and Design (MED) programmes last year and received overwhelming responses. In November 2013, the YEC led a 20-member delegation to Korea. They visited renowned enterprises, namely Kia Motors, Kolmar Korea and Samsung Electronics D’light Gallery, to see for themselves how creativity and technology contribute to industrial growth. The YEC met with various Hong Kong and Mainland government officials, including Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Gregory So and officials of Guangdong Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, to present their views in an effort to shape a better future for Hong Kong manufacturing enterprises. Another key objective of the YEC is strengthening business connections with stakeholders. In March 2014, the YEC co- hosted the annual Joint Business Community Spring Dinner with 12 major youth business organisations in Hong Kong to provide a platform for members to share market intelligence and foster closer relations. The YEC also introduced initiatives to raise members’ awareness of corporate social responsibility. They hosted CSR Movie Day for students from under-privileged families, and participated in Charity Run in the year. The Sage The General Committee endorsed in April 2013 the setting up of The Sage to strengthen ties with former General Committee members. Subsequently, an Organising Committee was formed and the committee members unanimously supported Dr K C Yip to be the President of The Sage. Apart from actively participating in FHKI events such as the Policy Address and Budget luncheons and General Committee dinners, The Sage also organised its own activities, such as a leisure trip to Lamma Island in December, to strengthen ties among members.
