22 FHKI Annual Report 2013-14 Starting from September 2013, a series of seminars, training sessions, workshops and a mission to Wuhan and Changsha have been organised. Furthermore, the “Hong Kong Toy Industry – Practical Platform for Domestic Sales in China” Campaign was launched to encourage toy manufacturers to collaborate with designers in developing tailor-made toys for the Mainland market. In July 2013, the FHKI started a BUD-funded research on the supply chains of fast moving consumer goods in Guangdong to enable SMEs in Hong Kong to formulate effective strategies to develop domestic sales. The study looks into the sales channels of these goods in three municipalities, namely Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Qingyuan. The first phase of the study about Shenzhen has been completed and a summary of findings has been uploaded onto FHKI’s website. Another BUD-funded project commenced in August to encourage local enterprises to build up quality brands to tap into the Mainland market. The project launched the “Hong Kong Q-Mark Product Testing & Service Standard Upgrade Support Scheme” in November. Given the growing importance of e-commerce in the domestic sales market, the FHKI secured financial support from the BUD Fund to launch the e-Commerce for Domestic Sales Training Programme in January 2014. Experienced e-commerce operators are invited to talk about how Hong Kong manufacturers could explore the domestic market through e-commerce. This project will last until mid-2015. MAC members attended over 50 investment and trade symposia in the year to forge connections with other provinces and municipalities in the Mainland and explore business opportunities. MAC also participated in various key events, such as the 17th China International Fair for Investment and Trade and the 17th Beijing - Hong Kong Economic Co-operation Symposium. During the year, the FHKI signed five Memorandums of Understanding respectively with the Guangdong Sub- Administration of China Customs; the Department of Commerce of Anhui Province; Banan, Chongqing Municipal People’s Government and Chongqing Foreign Trade & Economic Relations Commission; Zhongshan Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation; and Wuzhou, Guangxi to enhance exchange of information and trade relations. Facilitating B2B Exchange One of the FHKI’s flagship events, the 12th Networking Conference for Co-operation among Industrial and Commercial Circles in Hong Kong and the PRD (also known as 2013 PRD Annual Gala Dinner) was held in Zhongshan in December. Co-hosted by the FHKI, the Hong Kong Productivity Council and the PRDC, the theme of the Gala Dinner for this year was “Harmonious Zhongshan, Tremendous Opportunities”. Top officials from Hong Kong and Guangdong, including Chief Executive C Y Leung, Deputy Governor of Guangdong Zhao Yufang, Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Tang Hao, former Executive Vice Governor of Guangdong Tang Bingquan, Party Secretary of Zhongshan Xue Xiaofeng and Mayor of Zhongshan Chen Liangxian attended the Gala Dinner. Some 1,000 leaders of industrial and commercial associations from Guangdong and Hong Kong were present at the event. November 2013 marked the opening of a new chapter of the PRDC in Chao-Shan. The Liaison Office of the Chaozhou and Shantou Chapter is responsible for assisting Hong Kong enterprises in eastern Guangdong to ride on the business opportunities there. FHKI Chairman Stanley Lau, Deputy Chairman cum PRDC Chairman Willy Lin and Chao - Shan Chapter Chairman Dr John Chan led a 40-member delegation to Jieyang and Shantou in the same month to get an update of the development, investment policies and business opportunities in these two cities.
