20 FHKI Annual Report 2013-14 In April 2013, the then FHKI Chairman Dr Roy Chung and the then Deputy Chairman cum PRDC Chairman Stanley Lau led a delegation to call on Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Hu Chunhua, Governor of Guangdong Province Zhu Xiaodan, Standing Committee Member of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee Lin Musheng and Deputy Governor of Guangdong Province Zhao Yufang. Mr Hu briefed the delegation on Guangdong’s latest development strategies. He also encouraged manufacturing enterprises in the PRD to transform and upgrade their operations in-situ to face up to new challenges. In August, FHKI’s current Chairman Stanley Lau and FHKI Deputy Chairman cum PRDC’s current Chairman Willy Lin led a delegation to visit the labour, trade and customs authorities in Guangzhou to reflect members’ concern on a number of issues such as trade union fund, converting sales tax into value-added tax, and the impact of a dock strike on the Hong Kong business community. Participating inMissions to the Mainland The FHKI participated in HKSAR Government’s delegations to Chongqing, Guangxi and Fujian during the year to promote economic and trade co-operation. In September 2013, FHKI Chairman Stanley Lau, together with Deputy Chairmen Ir Daniel Cheng, Eric Yim and Dr Daniel Yip, joined the HKSAR trade delegation to visit the Liangjiang New Area and enterprises in Chongqing. Witnessed by Chief Executive C Y Leung and Mayor of Chongqing Huang Qifan, the FHKI, Shui On Group and three other major chambers in Hong Kong signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Chongqing-Hong Kong City & Hong Kong Industrial Park with Banan, Chongqing Municipal People’s Government and Chongqing Foreign Trade & Economic Relations Commission to forge closer ties. The establishment of China-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Free Trade Area has reinforced Guangxi’s status as China’s bridge to the ASEAN markets. In this regard, a HKSAR trade delegation visited Guangxi in November to enhance bilateral collaboration. FHKI Chairman Stanley Lau and Deputy Chairmen Willy Lin and Eric Yim joined the delegation and visited China South City Nanning, China- Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park, Qinzhou Free Trade Port Area and key enterprises in Guangxi. To enhance co-operation with Fujian, FHKI Deputy Chairman Jimmy Kwok participated in the HKSAR’s trade delegation to visit enterprises in Fuzhou and Xiamen in January 2014. Exploring Business Opportunities Leveraging on the “Dedicated Fund on Branding, Upgrading and Domestic Sales” (BUD Fund) set up by the HKSAR Government, the FHKI successfully secured financial support for five projects covering the mould and die industry, toys industry, fast moving consumer goods, promotion of Q-Mark and e-Commerce. With the support of the BUD Fund, the FHKI and Hong Kong Mould & Die Council (Group 14) launched a three-year project to host a Hong Kong Pavilion in the Mould and Die Zone at Chinaplas. The first Pavilion was set up in Guangzhou in May 2013 to demonstrate the excellence of “Made in Hong Kong” technologies, mechanics, mould components and products to help industry players tap into business opportunities in the Mainland market. The FHKI, Hong Kong Toys Council (Group 19), the Toys Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council spearheaded a BUD- funded project to encourage Hong Kong toy industry players to upgrade their original equipment manufacturing/original design manufacturing (OEM/ODM) model to own branding manufacturing (OBM) model so as to exploit domestic sales.
