他 分別根據捷克文的「 Robo t a 」(意指勞役)和 波蘭文的「 Robo t n i k 」(意指工人),創造出 「 Robot 」一詞。 The term“Robot” originated in 1920 andwas created by the Czechoslovakian writer Karel Čapek. He coined the word “Robot” based on the Czech word “Robota” (meaning labour) and the Polish word “Robotnik” (meaning worker). Unexpectedly, in 1959 Americans Joseph Engelberger and George Devol jointly created the world’s first industrial robot. They thought the production process of the automobile industry was relatively more dangerous but stable, and thus was suitable for the use of heavy machinery. They therefore created a robot to assist in the production of cars. Subsequently, Engelberger established Unimation, the world’s first robotic manufacturing company, which began the history of robotics participating in industrial production.
