要大量製造品質及細節相同的產品，各類工業均離 不開使用模具─將原材料變成特定形狀的配件工 具。即使生產一部手機或桌上電腦，也要用上數以 十計的模具，可想而知模具對於工業的重要程度。 那麼，可有甚麼產品是不會或甚少使用模具？那就 是手版模型或手工製品了。不過，為了滿足數以億 計人類的需求，以模具為基石之一的工業生產已成 為現代社會中不可或缺的一環。 說起香港工業，不同人或許有不同的第一印象。普羅大眾或 會想起塑膠玩具、鐘錶、豉油等工業產品。但工業家的第一 印象可能是“ OEM” 、“ ODM” 及“ OBM” ……慢着，這些字母 是代表甚麼意思？ 簡單而言，“ OEM” 即是俗稱的代工生產，廠商只負責生產產 品。“ ODM” 則是指具有一定技術水平的廠商為商品提供設計 及具體生產程序。而“ OBM” 則更進一步，廠商自行建立品 牌並進行生產。其實，“ OEM” 、“ ODM” 及“ OBM” 亦見證著 香港工業的變遷，由 60 至 80 年代盛行的代工生產，逐漸演變 至今天能為客戶提供更多高增值服務、乃至擁有自主品牌的 模式。 To manufacture products of the same quality and details in large quantities, it is necessary to use moulds - a tool that turns raw materials into accessories with specific shapes. Producing a mobile phone or a desktop computer, for example, requires the use of as many as 10 moulds. Speaking of manufacturing in Hong Kong, some people may think of plastic toys, watches and soy sauce. But to manufacturers, “OEM”, “ODM” and “OBM” may come to mind. What do these acronyms mean? “OEM” (Original Equipment Manufacturer) refers to companies that simply produce products for another company. “ODM” (Original Design Manufacturer) refers to companies that design as well as manufacture products, and are equipped with a certain level of technology. “OBM” (Original Brand Manufacturer) refers to companies that build not only their own products but also their own brands. The change from the prevalence of OEMs in the 1960s to 1980s to the appearance of OBMs in recent years signifies the transition of Hong Kong industries. Some products, like hand-made ones, do not need to be made using moulds. But to meet the needs of hundreds of millions of people, industrial production using moulds has become an indispensable part of modern society.
