FHKI 60th Anniversary Commemorative Album
After World War II, there were controls on foreign exchange which, to a certain extent, restricted purchases of machinery and technology from overseas. Mr Kenneth Ting’s father then bought two sets of plastic machinery from overseas and delivered them to Hong Kong where he had set up a company in 1948 to manufacture simple plastic utensils, like chopsticks and plastic water buckets. In 1940s, the Ting family operated large factories manufacturing batteries, torches and light bulbs in Shanghai. The production scale was one of the largest on the Mainland. Mr Kenneth Ting is the fouth son of the late Mr Ting Hsiung Chao who operated factories in Shanghai to manufacture batteries and torches in the 1940s. The Ting family first introduced mould making in Hong Kong, laying a solid foundation for the local mould and die industry as well as the plastics and toy industries. Kenneth Ting 香港工業總會六十周年紀念專集 24
