Hong Kong Industrialist Aug Oct 2021

To revisit Tommy Ching’s short film made specifically for 2020 Young Industrialist Award of Hong Kong: 重溫程俊華特別為獲頒 2020年香港青年工業家獎拍攝的短片︰ international manufacturers to replace plastic products. In 2019, Shanghai took the lead in enforcing new regulation on disposable goods, where hotels in Shanghai are not allowed to provide six kinds of disposable toiletries to customers. Beijing and Hainan will follow suit soon in calling hotels to reduce the supply of disposable items. These regulations not only accelerate the green transformation for the hospitality industry, but also making Ming Fai Group’s products come in handy to capture new opportunities. Although such environmental regulations may temporarily affect the orders of traditional products, Tommy is confident that the Group, together with its network of global sustainable material suppliers, will capture such green opportunities by helping corporate clients develop and introduce products with less footprint in response to the regulatory requirements and consumer expectations in the long run. Building “Made By Hong Kong” Brands on the Retail Front The COVID-19 pandemic has spread swiftly in Hong Kong at the beginning of 2020. Seeing the public’s anxious demand for anti-epidemic products, Tommy resolutely began to establish production for surgical masks and disinfection supplies in the hope to help the society tide over adversity with the power of industrialists. In a week’s time, Tommy and his team refurbished Ming Fai’s warehouse in Tuen Mun into a dust-free clean workshop and purchased equipment for surgical mask production. In early April, Pasión masks were successfully launched in the market, which is also among the first batch of locally manufactured masks obtaining the “Q-Mark” certification. Tommy took special care of his long-term business partners and supplied surgical masks to local hotels at discounted prices during the hard times. In spite of Ming Fai Group’s achievements in the industry, Tommy has been paying full efforts in spurring innovation and building the “Made by Hong Kong” brand on the strong foundation laid by his parents’ generation. He upholds the “People Oriented, Environment First ” principle in daily operations through developing eco- friendly product lines, leading the company to break new grounds and expand businesses in a steady manner. Looking forward, Tommy will lead Ming Fai to excel further on developing products and brands in Hong Kong and exploiting mainland China and emerging markets. Besides, Tommy is proactively leveraging its global hotel networks with over 3,000 partners to develop B2C (business-to- customer) retail channels, turning over a new page for Ming Fai. 8-10/2021 | 99
