Hong Kong’s well-developed digital infrastructure and R&D capabilities are well- recognised worldwide. It is ranked fifth globally in the IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking 2020, demonstrating our outstanding qualities in the development of information technology industry. Over the past few years, the Government's strong support for innovation and technology development as well as start-up ecosystem has built a fertile ground for the industry to flourish. With the 5G services launched by the Hong Kong Government in April 2020 which has reached over 90% geographical coverage now, it has laid strong foundation for the industry to develop innovative applications like smart city, automated systems and remote mechanical control etc. The industry shall also explore the “Subsidy Scheme for Encouraging Early Deployment of 5G” to fund their development of novel 5G business applications. Nowadays, industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT) plays a critical role in the success of modern manufacturing activities. The Hong Kong Government and FHKI both advocates for “re-industrialisation” and advanced manufacturing locally. At the same time, Hong Kong-invested manufacturers are pursuing industrial automation in their mainland China and Southeast Asia production bases.
