FOSTER CROSS-SECTOR COLLABORATION TO GROOM THE BIOTECH INDUSTRY 連繫官產學研 驅動生物科技新產業 HKSTP is the strategic hub for the local innovation and technology ecosystem, with the mission to drive and co-ordinate applied R&D and commercialisation by promoting the collaboration among Government, industry, academic and research sectors. Biomedical technology is one of the strategic focuses of HKSTP with 160 technology companies and overseas research centres in “Health@InnoHK” platform operating in the Science Park. Professor John Kao believes that Hong Kong has great strengths and the fertile ground for biotechnology to flourish. It does not only boost the development of advanced industries, but also create new opportunities for traditional industries and businesses. 香港科技園公司是香港創新及科技生態中，促進官產學研合作及商品化的重要基地。生物醫藥科技作為科技園的重點策略領域，園內 現時有160間相關公司，並有多個「Health@InnoHK」平台的海外研發中心陸續進駐。高為元教授認為，香港具備發展生物科技所需 的土壤，不但能帶動新興先進製造業，更能為傳統工商業增值。 The Government has been actively promoting the commercialisation of scientific research, where biotechnology as one of the focuses in creating new engines of economic growth. Besides the strong local research capabilities, Hong Kong possesses all essential qualities for biotechnology industry to succeed. “Our sound IP protection regime, the international talent pool and mature fundraising channels are of critical importance to biotechnology industry. The listing reform of HKEX is conducive to biotechnology companies to set up in Hong Kong for fundraising.
