T o achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, the Environmental Bureau announced earlier this year the Hong Kong Roadmap on Popularisation of Electric Vehicles (EVs) , covering electric private cars, commercial vehicles, charging network, maintenance services and battery recycling. The setting out of long-term objectives for the popularisation of EVs is expected to bring about revolutionary changes for the industry. Indeed, the Japanese and European governments have begun to set targets for popularising EVs. Some notable automobile manufacturers have echoed the policies and announced plans to go all-electric. The universalisation of EVs is a global trend and creates enormous business opportunities in Hong Kong and overseas markets. The Roadmap will provide the industry with a better picture of the Government’s plans, which facilitates the industry’s preparation in taking part in the EVs and new energy businesses. The industry is particularly encouraged by the comprehensive measures throughout the value chain delineated in the Roadmap. FHKI will fully support Hong Kong manufacturers in making good use of the Government’s support to step forward in industry transformation, and continue to collaborate with different sectors in society to drive the popularisation of EVs and expansion of business to the sector of new energy vehicle. Ricky Chan Government’s EV Roadmap blazes the trail for Emerging New Energy Vehicle Industry
