A s Mainland China is the largest market for Hong Kong’s food export, the convenience of customs clearance is of vital importance to business operations. The cooperative arrangement regarding safety supervision of Macao-made food exported to the Mainland took effect in Macau earlier this year. Through formulating a list of jointly supervised food varieties, foods manufactured in Macao meeting the requirements will be issued certificates and offered convenient measures at custom clearance. Such certified foods will be given priority at the on- site inspection and can be released even when the test results are pending. This founded a new mode of food safety supervision in the circulation links in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). To facilitate Hong Kong’s high-quality food and proprietary Chinese medicine in entering the GBA market and boosting domestic sales, FHKI has long been lobbying the Government for convenient custom clearance measures such as standardising testing requirements for processed food imports and establishing a green channel for minimising custom inspection.
