In September, FHKI joined hands with the Vocational Training Council and a local face mask manufacturer to launch a brand-new smart manufacturing training programme for the personal protection equipment industry; FHKI collaborated with CityU’s College of Engineering to organise the “Virtual Industrial Day”, showcasing over 20 R&D projects from professors, research teams and students from the eight major engineering departments of CityU, covering healthcare, energy, transportation and AI etc. Meanwhile, I am honoured to be recently appointed by the Government as the Chairman of the “Steering Committee on Promotion of Vocational and Professional Education and Training and Qualifications Framework”. Through the work of the Committee, I hope we can provide multiple pathways to education for young people and further promote the development of vocational and professional education in Hong Kong. We also want to let the younger generation know that the manufacturing industry has promising prospects. New Blood Joins FHKI It isworthnoting thatMr Anthony Lamwas elected as aDeputyChairman at theGeneral Committeemeeting in July. Mr Lam is a veteran of the rice industry with nearly 30 years of experience. He has also actively participated in public service andmade significant contribution to the development of Hong Kong’s industrial sector. I believe that with his industry experience, professional knowledge and leadership, Mr Lam will provide valuable advice for FHKI andhelppromote the development of HongKong’s re-industrialisation. Hong Kong’s economic recovery is still full of challenges. At this critical juncture, FHKI will closely monitor the business climate and strengthen communicationwith the industry. We also encourage our members to fully utilise favourable measures, such as the “Re-industrialisation Funding Scheme”, to assist in their transformation and upgrading to overcome current difficulties. Meanwhile, FHKI will continue to lobby the Government for a long-term industrial development blueprint to help reboot the economy. 10-12/2020 | 7
