Annual Report 2014-15

36 FHKI Annual Report 2014-15 Operational Review 工作回顧 Fostering Sustainable Development 提倡可持續發展 Under the chairmanship of Ir Daniel Cheng who is also Deputy Chairman of the FHKI, the Sustainable Industry Council advocates green economy and oversees our environmental programmes to ensure they achieve their goals. Green Advocacy The FHKI believes that going green will create a better environment for the present and future generations. We support the green cause by lobbying for supportive policies, partnering with the Environmental Protection Department in organising green expos and facilitating business networking amongst enterprises to tap on opportunities arising from the green economy. During the year, three submissions have been sent to the Government on the extension of the Cleaner Production Partnership Programme, the Recycling Fund and the Environmental Impact Assessment for the airport’s Three-Runway System. Regarding the consultation on fuel mix for electricity generation, the FHKI considers that a suitable balance should be struck between the use of cleaner energy and energy costs. We outlined in a submission to the Government the drawbacks of their proposed options and suggested increasing the supply of electricity generated from nuclear power plants in the Mainland to provide stable, clean and reasonably priced energy supply. “One Factory - One Year – One Environmental Project” The FHKI launched the “One Factory - One Year - One Environmental Project” (One-One-One) Programme in 2005 to encourage manufacturing companies to adopt sound environmental practices and to reduce pollution in Hong Kong and the PRD region. In 2007, the FHKI and Hang Seng Bank joined hands to establish the Hang Seng - Pearl River Delta Environmental Awards. Starting from 2013, the Awards have been expanded to cover the Pan PRD region. A record high of 232 manufacturing companies participated in the Awards in 2013-14 and implemented a total of 726 environmental projects. The Awards introduced a new category of recognition – “5 Years+ Entrant” – to commend companies that have taken part in the Awards for five consecutive years or more. During the year, a series of seminars, luncheons and factory visits on “Low-carbon manufacturing” and “Sustainable Development” was held in Hong Kong and the PRD region to encourage industries to implement environmental projects.
