Annual Report 2014-15
30 FHKI Annual Report 2014-15 Technology Development Committee Given the growing importance of technology in facilitating industrial development, the FHKI set up the Technology Development Committee in 2013 to step up promotion of technological applications. Headed by Dr Samson Tam, Honorary President of Group 5 (Hong Kong Electronics Industry Council) of the FHKI, the Committee held a number of business matching activities with the Hong Kong Science Park and Cyberport to forge cooperation with technology providers and incubates. Arrangements were made for the Hong Kong Invention Association to showcase their inventions to FHKI members at a meeting in August 2014. A networking meeting was held in January the following year to provide a platform for local industrialists to meet with representatives from universities and technology institutes in the United States, Britain and Italy, including Princeton University and The University of Edinburgh, to facilitate technology transfer and R&D collaboration. We support the Government’s proposal of establishing the Innovation and Technology Bureau to spearhead and coordinate the efforts of the Government, industry, academia and the research sector in promoting technology development. Although funding approval for setting up the new Bureau has yet to be given by the Legislative Council, the FHKI will continue to voice our support for this initiative. Promoting Local Design The Design Council of Hong Kong (DCHK) was established by the FHKI in 1968 with the objectives of promoting the interests of the local design industry and raising the standards of product design and innovation in Hong Kong. Under the leadership of its Chairman Eric Yim who is also FHKI Deputy Chairman, the DCHK launched the D-Mark certification in June 2014 to encourage the industry to add value to their business through the use of design and to give recognition to companies which have established an effective framework for harnessing quality designs. A Launch Ceremony was held in March 2015 during which D-Mark certificates were presented to 25 companies. In July 2014, DCHK members paid a visit to PMQ and met the acclaimed French artist, PauloGrangeon, who brought 1,600 pandas to PMQ to promote the city’s creative industry and sustainable development. Separately, the first HK-SZ Design Biennale was held in Shenzhen in September, covering exhibitions and other related activities. Out of these, two events – Creative Design Showcase and Design Enterprise Pairing and Crossover Exhibition – were curated by the DCHK. DCHK was one of the supporting organisations of the My Toy Design Competition 2014-2015. The competition seeks to nurture students’ creativity and identify talented designers. In November, DCHK Chairman Eric Yim sewed as an officiating Operational Review Enhancing Competitiveness Q-Mark Parent-kid Cooking Contest 2014 (upper left and right), and a technology exchange meeting held by FHKI’s Technology Development Committee (lower right) 2014 Q嘜親子廚神大賽(左上、右上);工總科技發展 委員會舉辦科技配對會(右下)
