24 FHKI Annual Report 2013-14 Enhancing Competitiveness 提升競爭力 Q-Mark Certification The Hong Kong Q-Mark Council was established under the auspices of the FHKI in 1978. The objective of the Council is to promote quality assurance and environmental protection by encouraging local industries to be certified under its schemes. Q-Mark is a well-known quality assurance mark to the Hong Kong public. The Q-Mark Product Scheme, the Q-Mark Service Scheme and the Green Mark Certification Scheme offer different options of quality certification to suit the nature of business of different enterprises. Under the leadership of its Chairman Bernie Ting, the Council celebrated the 35 th anniversary of Q-Mark through a series of promotion activities. Financial Secretary John Tsang was the officiating guest at the Launch Ceremony of the 35 th Anniversary of Q-Mark at Harbour City in April 2013. In June, the 35 th Anniversary Celebration of Hong Kong Q-Mark was staged at Plaza Hollywood where Q-Mark games, Q-Mark cartoon figures and sales booths of licensees were set up. Other publicity activities in the year included the Q-Mark Kids Contest in June and the Q-Mark Parent-Kid Chef’s Contest held during the Food Expo in August. With the support of the Government’s BUD Fund, a two-year project was rolled out to encourage local enterprises to enhance the standards of their products and services to tap into the domestic market. The “Hong Kong Q-Mark Product Testing & Service Standard Upgrade Support Scheme” of the project was launched in November to provide one-off financial support of up to HK$20,000 on pre-certification testing fee or consultancy service upgrade for each Hong Kong registered company that is a first-time applicant of either the Q-Mark Product Scheme or the Q-Mark Service Scheme. The project also covers: (i) seminars at which Q-Mark licensees were present to share their experience in promoting their brands in the Mainland; (ii) two roadshows in Guangzhou; and (iii) the establishment of a Hong Kong Q-Mark interactive information web-based e-Centre to promote the Q-Mark Schemes and Q-Mark certified brands to the Mainland’s wholesalers and consumers. The first roadshow was held at Guangbi Shangyi shopping mall in Guangzhou in January 2014. Q-Mark licensees set up booths to raise local consumers’ awareness of their products. A central display area was designated to showcase Q-Mark licensed products.
