FHKI 60th Anniversary Commemorative Album

Hong Kong has very limited land space to absorb the large volume of solid waste. The three existing strategic landfills have already reached their full capacity and we need to lengthen the lifetime of these landfills’ extensions as long as we can. That is why the recycling industry is very much needed and should be promoted in Hong Kong. A thriving recycling industry in Hong Kong will be a long-term solution to the city’s pressing waste disposal problems. It helps reduce volume of waste, save resources in the treatment of waste, lengthen the lifetime of landfills and create job opportunities. The recycling industry is one of the most promising environmental industries in Hong Kong. Hong Kong has a relatively high daily per capita domestic waste generation rate, which is comparatively higher than neighbouring cities at a similar level of development: Hong Kong: 1.36kg; Taipei City: 1kg, Seoul: 0.95kg and Tokyo: 0.77kg. Mr Jimmy Kwok is Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Recycling Fund of the Government. The Advisory Committee advise the Government on the operation of the Recycling Fund since its establishment in 2015, which helps facilitate the upgrading of operational capabilities and efficiency of the recycling industry.
