Government and industrial supporting organisations should step up coordination work in this area. The Hong Kong SAR Government has been building a facilitating and enabling environment to promote technology and knowledge-based industries. It is encouraging to note that new measures have been introduced to support SMEs to improve their usage of new technologies and adoption of innovative business models. Hong Kong is remarkably renowned for its service economy. A healthy economy should avoid being homogeneous. Industry is the primary basis of innovative technologies which in turn are driving the growth of economies in this century. It is advocated that re-industrialisation in Hong Kong should focus on R&D and design; yet the process could not be completed if users of the results of innovation and R&D are absent in Hong Kong. Although land and manpower costs are relatively high, if enterprises can effectively employ intelligent technologies and capitalise on advantages offered by the mature logistics industry plus industrialists’ strict adherence to quality, Hong Kong eventually can realise the goal of establishing home- grown high-end industries. Lee Kee’s core business is very much involved in the upper and lower streams of the non-ferrous metal industry covering both international commodity dealings and metal manufacturing business. Many of its collaboration partners are leading international players enabling the company to keep abreast of world market trends. It has to adapt to market changes and adjust business strategies. Its open-minded attitude to new thoughts, new models and new opportunities is one of Lee Kee’s corporate philosophies, which is also a driving force of the Group to diversify its business. Only by learning, gaining experience and improvement from consistent exploration and trials of new solutions can an enterprise attain sustainable growth. Many industrial enterprises employ Internet and big data as tools to enhance quality control and operational efficiency to maintain their competitive edge in the process of upgrade and transformation. The most crucial factor is industrial talent. Enterprises have to ensure the transition of old and new technologies, data systems and techniques acquired by staff is smooth. Not only is devoting sufficient resources into new technologies necessary, they also need to provide training to personnel pertinent to the application of these technologies. Moreover, to develop a powerful and efficient IoT, it is essential to attain collaboration among cross-sectoral stakeholders.
